TecQuipment Thin Cylinder Apparatus
The Thin Cylinder Apparatus is a bench mounted experimental unit designed to help students investigate stresses and strains in a pressurised thin walled cylinder. It supports hands on study of core stress and strain theory through controlled laboratory testing. The apparatus uses a thin walled aluminium cylinder mounted in a rigid frame and pressurised with oil using a hydraulic hand pump. Strain gauges measure surface strain while pressure is monitored electronically. Students can test the cylinder under open end or closed end conditions, allowing comparison of cases with and without axial stress. Results can be recorded manually or compared with theoretical calculations using the supplied guidance.
