Quanser 3 DOF Hover
The 3 DOF Hover is a budget-friendly experimental platform. It is used to understand the control and dynamics of vehicles that take off vertically. It consists of a circular planar frame that hosts four propellers. Each propeller is mounted on a DC motor placed at the ends of the frame. At the center of the frame, there is a three degree of freedom pivot joint that allows the frame to roll, pitch, and yaw. Based on the lift generated by the propellers, the user is able to control the pitch and roll of the vehicle. Each pair of opposite propellers rotate to cancel out torque and stay stable when evenly throttled. This platform is suitable for the examination of control principles and flight dynamics of vertically lifting vehicles.
