Quanser Active Suspension
The Active Suspension system is a laboratory-scale apparatus for teaching and research on modern vehicle suspension technology. It simulates a vehicle’s response to road disturbances using three masses on stainless steel shafts with linear bearings. The upper mass represents the vehicle body, the middle mass simulates a tire, and the lower mass represents the road. The upper mass is connected to a high-quality DC motor via a capstan, enabling active compensation for vertical wheel movements. The bottom plate moves under the control of a powerful DC motor with a lead screw and cable system. This setup allows students and researchers to study how active suspension systems control motion dynamically and improve vehicle performance.
